im trying to save weight, does it really save that much? im also going for strength. im a newby to this stuff, so any input or directional advice would be awesome

You will save more money than weight by using glass. Carbon will give you bling but who cares its on the inside.

true, im just tossing ideas back and forth, plus until just now i was not up to date on the carbon market prices, it does seem pricey. ok so other questions, what weight fiberglass would you suggest?

chriselmore_1 had the carbon fiber for sale a while back, I bought some. Good deal. I'm going with 6 oz and something S glass followed by the 2x2 twill carbon on top, 6.8 oz I believe. Can't wait to start the defoaming and grinding soon. Boat dock foam and 1208 biax will be under/in the tray and Mullet Masher (my ski's name) will hit the surf, but as of now there isn't a single bolt in the hull.

im not very knowledgeable about carbon, but do you apply it just like fiber glass?? is there anywhere that has a carbon laying tutorial?

When you say fiberglass, if you are referring to a fiberglass CLOTH then yes. But carbon takes more care in the handling and cutting phase if you want to protect the weave for cosmetic reasons. Get a light spray adhesive and spray the areas you are going to cut to avoid "strings" from forming.
