Carb rebuild or Start a new?

I have a 1990 550 that needs carb work. Is it hard or complicated to work on the carb's on these things? Would it be cheaper just to purchase a new one? Thanks trying to make a costly decision.

Ski starts then dies after couple minutes.

if its never been rebuilt try that first. look up john ziggler on here. I think he sells a rebuild kit for about 20-30 bucks. they are easy to rebuild. just make sure you have a good large set of screw drivers so you don't strip any of the screws. if you do buy a new one upgrade to a sbn 44. that will set you back 200 bucks though. my carb was screwed up so I had to replace it.
