SX/SXi/SXi Pro Carb question Does size matter ;)

So I am building up a 750 motor, will have ADA Head ~170comp, freestyle porting, brand new top end and fairly new low end, lightened stock flywheel, Complete factory pipe exhaust, MSD coil, and Possibly MSD enhancer in the future but for now stock CDI, I am wondering what Carb/manifold set up I should start looking for. I was thinking a 46mm but they seem few and far between in the used category but 44mm's seem to be abundant. What should I look for and would I be hurt by using a 44 over a 46? Hopefully the last decision I have to make for this build and its a big one so its gotta be right

The stock i Body Mikuni carbs from the SXi and SXR are about as good of a value as you can find. Easy to tune and run great. I have also had good luck with single 42mm Keihin carbs...

I think it depends on what you want to do. For freestyle and low end stuff you dont need monster carbs. For max hp and racing larger ones work really well with porting and aftermarket reeds. The engine flows more.

I run 48 dual Novis on my ported 800, and along with Advent its a set up that really rips down low and screams up high.

A complete OEM sxi/sxr intake from 1996 up is very good, keep the stock flame arrestor too. As far as singles, an aftermarket keihin 42 on the stock manifold will work better than the stock 40. A mikuni SBN 44 is also fine and as large as I would go if there was a lot of high speed running. An SBN 46 is great for throttle blipping but can act too big for sustained full throttle depending on peak RPM and flame arrestor. I had an overpropped 750 with a single 46 that would not hold a full throttle mixture setting until I restricted the F/A and installed a lower pitched impeller.
