Other Carb Connector Play

Pulled my motor to try a pfp this weekend and decided to do an engine inspection while it was out because it has started acting like it had an airleak when I started it out of the water. It would take off reving until I hit the stop button. It did not do it when the pump was loaded. No other symptoms. I noticed that there is a little play between my carbs. This was a new mikuni connector three years ago. It is the one with the three interlocking pieces. Has anyone else had this issue?

That rubber coupler can wear out over time.
Do make sure that the set screws are tight, though. Just order a new rubber piece.

Looking for it online right now but cannot find a pic. It is not the one thrust or wamiltons or xmetal sell. It has interconnecting cogs that link together. I think it is all metal or maybe the piece in the middle is plastic. I got it from Art when I bought the carbs. The peices that have set screws are still tight.

No. I was pulling motor anyway so I figured I would inspect it all and pressure test it. The primary carb seals fine but the slave carb has play so it could theoretically open and let some air in with the primary carb in the closed position.

From my experience, when you lower the idle, that technique should allow you to close both carbs and simmer the engine down as a test to verify carbs are not in proper synch and that it is not an air leak run away.
