cant install this UMI plate $*&#$^

I bought it from a guy who said it was on it RN superjet. but i tried to install it and cant figure out, am i that retarted or was this actually for a SN jet? Maybe I tried bearings one way and another and upsidedown and how ever nothing works, the bottom does stick out far enough to fit the nut on there, and the hole inside the pole is to big for the shaft that goes in.

Maybe pictures can explain better...

you got it upside down in the first pic... you need to drill 4 holes in your handlepole for the the small bolts. That will let you bolt the base to the pole. then its: big oring & thrust washers, plate w/ clamps up, roller bearing, cap w/ small oring, washer, lock nut.

I reinstalled mine on a new shorter pole today and found the (4) 25mm bolts to not be long enough to pass through and still get a washer and nut on. I had to buy new 30mm bolts in bulk so if anyone ever finds this to be a problem, let me know and I can help you with the longer bolts. This was on an AC pole so my findings may not be a problem for others.

I had the same problem installing the UMI system on my stock '05 pole. Called UMI and they said the metal washer that mounts beneath the pole was used for the stock square pole. Supposedly, it was fiberglass and the metal plate added support for the steering collar/plate assembly.

That makes sense and I considered NOT using the plate but they still would have been a little short studded. I like the clean look when the backing plate is used since it covers the bottom of the hole in the pole.

installed! thanks guys, just had no idea stock pole had to be modified to fit UMIs.

what kind of bit did you use to drill your holes? any chance i can "borrow" that backing plate? ill pay for you to send it and then ill send it back. can you post a pic of it on your pole top and bottom? THANKS!!

whats the backing plate? ill try to post a pic of it tomorrow if i dont forget

the backing plate is the piece that u use if your mounting to a square nose pole (in pics 1&3).it wont really work as a template unless it has a lip that rests inside the hole of the bracket.

That explains it...I had the same problem with my stock pole as well.
I could get two of the washers/nuts on, but the last two I had to leave
the washers off to get them the nuts to thread on.
