Can't get the X2 running..

Okay, I'll try to descibe this the best I can:

It will start and seems to run for 30 or so seconds as long as I keep on the throttle. It won't idle on it's own and after about 30 seconds it just dies. I've got good spark, i've checked the intank filters and they aren't clogged, I drained the gas and replaced it with new as it had been sitting since at least July.

The ski is 100% stock and the carb is set @ 1.5 & 1 IIRC

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated as I really wanna get out on the water and start riding.

Also, please keep in mind that this is the first 2 stroke I've ever worked on.

Is there anybody local that would be willing to go through this ski with me and show me the ropes?
TIA

If its the stock 28mm carb, the low speed jet is probably plugged with crap, its so small it takes almost nothing. A disposable fuel filter just before the carb will fix it for the future.

A little more info:
When I say it runs for 30 seconds thats with me constantly blipping the throttle and then even when doing that it will still die. Also, I know the idle screw isn't set right but I can't play with that until I'm able to get it to run for more than 30 seconds.

If you have a gauge, check the compression. But my guess would be if you have good spark its most likely your carb/fuel delivery. Are you still running the on/off/res switch?

Compression is 160 on both.

Yeah, I'm still running the on/off/res switch which has also crossed my mind as being faulty.

Something else I just realized: Once I get it running and it dies it takes a little work to get it to fire up again. As if it has to re-prime itself. How long would the ski run on the fuel that's held in the carb?

I think I'll bypass the on/off/res switch next and see if that cures the problem.

Could it be the built in fuel pump?

I would go through/rebuild the carb and see if that gets rid of your problem, then replace your fuel lines and add an inline filter....bypassing the on/off/res switch.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking as well.

I just pulled the carb off and pulled apart the fuel pump cover and the cover off the back side and the diaphragm under the back cover looks kinda beat.

Why is there such a price difference between OEM rebuild kits and aftermarket kits for the CDKII carb?

I picked up a carb rebuild kit at lunch along with some new fuel line, inline fuel filter and primer kit...

Oh yeah and a westcoast exhaust for dirt cheap.

so much for not modding it ;) (I didn't really expect that to last long)

So I'll rebuild the carb and replace the fuel lines and report back my findings. Thanks for all the help thus far.

So here's what I found when I tore the carb down completely:

So I rebuilt the carb, replaced fuel lines, removed choke & removed on/off/res switch and installed the primer in it's place.
