i got a 61x this weekend for $125+ putting the guys gp1200 back togather. it had melted the rings on the pistons when he had it, but everything else looks really good as far as i know. i was going to take the pistons off, but i cant get pins out of them. i have removed the circlips on both sides, sprayed it with wd40 and tried to tap them out... they wont come out. what should i try next? i dont want to damage the crank bc i think it is good.

I have a piston pin removal tool brand new in the bag if you need.

Take a piece of all thread and put it through the pin.. take a washer and nut and put them on the end of the all thread.. They should be slightly smaller than the pin so that they can come through the piston. Take and slide a socket over the all thread on the opposite side from the washer and the nut. It will rest against the side of the pistonThe socket should have a larger inner diameter than the outside diameter of the pin. Now take and put a washer and a nut on the all thread so that it rests agains the socket. Tighten the nut and it will pull the pin out of the piston. It makes a mini puller type of thing.. I'm attaching a paint pic.. I know it looks like crap, but I hope it helps.

Shonuff is selling the exact thing that PJSRider is describing. That is the only way to remove a stuck pin. It is work you might have to use a pair of pliers to turn the puller. But this is one time that a hammer will cause more harm than good. (read "Trust me" into that) Or you can go for the really gruesome task of cutting it off of the pin with a die grinder, that will only take an hour or so.
