Can your pole be TOO short for you?

The only thing I have really changed since last year was to a -2 inch UMi from a standard length one. I just dont seem to be jumping as high at all... do I just not have the leverage to pull it up??

I think the issue with a short pole would be with your girlfriend..

In all seriousness, I do think there is a limit that can be crossed. I'm 5'9" and don't have the same ergonomic needs as someone who is 6'2". Just go with what works for you.

Mine is -4" (i'm 6' 2") and with my brief experience with it... I love it, the stock was way to long for me, it had my hands almost against my chest it seemed like. I think like the above poster said, height is a key factor. I see people just assuming they should chop down 4" all the time because other people recommend it, but if you aren't tall, then I don't think it is a good idea.

I think it CAN be too short.

Mine is -3.5 or so, and it feels good, I think shorter would be better.

my sons is stock length, and it feels like im falling off the back of the boat to ride it. ( too long for me)

its really a user by user thing, Im 6 feet tall, and I think I will try a shorter pole.

I have a -2" pole with standard length bracket and it is perfect for me. My friends ski is set up identicle to mine except -2" pole and -2" bracket and it feels too short and uncomfortable for me. It is all personal preferance.

-6 w/ -1 turnplate so -7 all together. I'm 6'2" and it feels perfect. Originally had -3 and ended up taking another 3 inches out of it because it was still too long.

-2 should only benefit you. Lean forward more...

I have a -3 Roundnose pole on a Squarenose. I'm 5'8" Its pretty much perfect. If I get another pole I'd go -3" X metal and just play around with another inch on a turnplate if needed.

I've got a -2 pole and -1 turn plate on a SN and I'm only 5' 6" and probably (at least I hope) weigh less than most of the guys (a girl never divulges her weight). I'm considering taking another inch off the pole, but ride flat water enough that I'm torn, still.

One thing to keep in mind is that his hull is a shortend lightweight XFT. -12 on a -3 hull is really like -9 on a stocker.

putting a shorter pole on and SXR is just causing you to put more weight on the nose of a ski that already rides nose down.......... This is a wet hull, you need to address the pump nozzle angle to get the nose up........

for average height surfriders -2 on the pole, lowered bracket and -1 on the steering is about ideal
