can I run the motor out of the ski?

I rebuilt the carbs and was in the process of trying to get the ski running again. It ran for about 30 seconds (with the flush kit hooked up) and all of a sudden, black water started to appear in the bottom of the ski.

The ski was completely dry before I started and the water just appeared, no splashing or spraying from anywhere noticeable.

I immediatly stopped the ski, fearing an issue with the motor as the water was very black/oily. I pulled the motor out and looked all around and underneath it, but nothing looks out of the ordinary. All bolts are tight, etc.

I was thinking of running the motor out of the ski to see if the black water was coming from the motor, and if so, where.

Is it possible to run the motor while hanging from the cherry picker without causing any damage? It seems if I support it properly, with straps wrapping around the motor and a safety strap to the pick hook on the top, it should be basically the same force as sitting in the ski, right?

I want to check because after I pulled the motor, I noticed the hose going from the exhaust to the waterbox was removed (something I didn't do). I'd like to run the motor seperate just to make sure this was the culprit, so I don't have to pull it again.

It's a SN w/ a WBII 760 and Pro-Tec Mach 1 pipe.

Thanks

You probably already found the problem most of the water goes out through the exhaust. Put the motor back in and hook everything up dbl check your work you will be alright dude
