Can’t start 2014 sj

I have a 2014 sj, I was kicking it over after a while of sitting every thing seemed to be working correctly except for the motor not kicking over, I stopped and started a few times to get it running when I herd a little pop and a puff of smoke, I have changed the fuse and now it just ticks over but won’t crank, the noise sounds like it’s coming from the e box. Help please

Yeah sure is was fully charged before attempting to start with a battery that is only 3 months old

Take apart your ebox and short across the relay terminals. Rule out the starter relay. Can you turn the motor over by hand?

Yep sure can, I have also taken the fly wheel casing of and the stater motor and the engagement gear is also moving freely! I will get to the box and give that a go thanks

The stater is the part that is just klicking, I went straight across the two terminals and it stops klicking

Do you have a multi meter? You really need to test / check and see where you are loosing voltage.

If you are getting a full 12+ volts down at the starter post, you have a bad starter.
