One thing to think about when looking at the cheaper starters. A 1 year warranty on a $50 starter with free shipping is typically just a phrase to make you think it's good. In order to cash in on the warranty, you'll have to talk to them, ship it back to them with insurance and proof of delivery ($20), wait a month or two, take the chance that they'll honor the warranty, and pay another $20 to get it shipped back to you.....or just pay $10 more and get another POS. If it's from a local store, I'd do it, but I wouldn't pay to get one shipped.

Still cranks right up, surprisingly! You can still buy OEM relays since superjets are still in production...

Nice. I see these Caltric relays for sale for $10 or $12 all day long. The only OEM relay I've found so far was $85.
So are you saying that Yamaha used the same relays in some of their Superjets? What years?
On my initial search, the Yamahas appear to be 2 wire relays. And the old Kawasaki relay is 3 wires.

To my knowledge the SJ relay is exactly the same from 1990 to current.
Edit: Are you looking for a Kawasaki relay? If that's the case I am not the guy to ask. I do however have a cheapo relay in my rebuilt Kawi SC that seems to work just fine.

I quoted you because you mentioned that you had a Caltric aftermarket starter relay in your ski back in 2011. I'm not sure if it matters that it is in a SJ. Maybe their quality is getting better?
