Blaster Buying skis with blown motors - crank condition

First, yes I've searched all through here and using Google to see how to evaluate the condition of a crank with no success. I'm looking to pick up a 65u non power valve 1200 motor for a Blaster conversion project and attempting to save a few bucks by picking up a motor that needs minor repairs i.e. (simple bore and hone and new piston kit, blown crank seals, etc...) my question has to do with the determining the condition of the crank.

Is there a way (without tearing down the motor in the sellers garage) to determine if the crank is good? Obviously you should look for gaping holes in the case where a rod might have been thrown, but outside that what can ya do?

On a second note. Once the motor is purchased and torn down, what test do you do to crank to see if it's still in good shape?

^I second that. The only other thing I do or know of is to turn it by hand with no compression ie take the plugs out and feel for smothness, clanking, or sticking and that doesn't tell you the crank doesn't neccessarily need a rebuild just that it might not

throw your favorite quarter up in the air and pick a side, but im sure knowing what might have caused the failure would be somewhat of a determining factor, it overheated and fried or sank? something fell into the crank like a washer and was over looked or didnt put oil in the gas?
