buying first sj friday

Im buying a 650 sj on friday. It is in good shape with a r@d racing pipe and ride plate. My question is what do i do first, I dont want to buy parts that i cant use on a 701 later this winter

well i got the ski today. what a POS. It didnt have a pipe, but he said that it does have the sticker from r@d. But in the end i got it for a good price $600.00 w/ trailer,so now i will be looking for a pipe and a ride plate. Does anyone have a suggestion on what ride plate

Sorry to hear you think its a POS. an SJ for $600 and a trailer. sounds pretty good to me.

I've mainly been riding KAWI's but just got my first SJ a week or so ago. Read the sticky thread at the top about first SJ mods and that should give you a good enough start.

Well i spent 5 hours cleaning and buffing on the ski last night. It is amazing what soap and water will do for one that sat outside for the last 10 years. The ski didnt have a pipe but it did have a intake and impeller, so i guess that makes up for the pipe alittle. The ski starts up great so we are going to lake today, wish me luck

just got back from the lake and am surprised how well it runs. Handle a lot different than an kawi that i have had. The only problem is the pump is sucking air when you take off. Does it need to be rasealed or do js have shaft seals that leak. Any help would be great

just pulled the pump and it looks like the seal between theshoe and pump.Im not sure were the metal ring goes. Anyfixes that i can do tonight so i can go tomorrow

The metal ring actually fits into a groove on the rubber seal.......Blue RTV silicone works for a temporary fix
