Thought of some crazy ideas...Took the stock turf off...than measured and started cutting...Than I had to go to class. But seriously it took about 30 minutes and a bottled nati (college budget) to get this far. Its a rough sketch but its going exactly as planned. They are going to be like the waterdawg X-series foothold without the $$$$$ of buying them. Basically, I'm going to have ankle cut outs and cups for the footies (I have tried and I like having my whole foot in a hold) To help mold the toe area, Most hobby shops carry quality foam that can resist the chemical reaction (heat) of epoxy. More to come tomorrow night!!!!! :Banane01:

-drimmel trayside to desired length and height of foot/shoe
-Glass the area on the trayside. *WARNING* you cannot use walmart resin because it will eat away at the foam
-JB weld hobby foam to ski
-Shape exterior block of foam to desired size and shape than glass exterior foam to ski
-Drimmel the inside of the foam out to shape of foothold (basically a sqaure rounded off at the top.
-lay glass inside in places that need strengthening
-instant foothold

yeah, I'll definitely keep ya'll informed, I will take exact measurements and get very detailed in this project. cause i know how much it sucks to not be able to ride because of school costs.

So your going to take a mold of the left side and then glass the holds off the ski??

Is it not possible to just lay up the glass on top of that whole area?

If it was my ski I would scoop out the foam all the way out to the sides of the hull. Especially where your toes go.
I love the wide stance on my ski with the modifier WD REVs.

yeah sorry i didnt inform ya'll of what im doing very well, this is my first thread...Why make a mold when you can lay the glass in the custom hold that is already cut. There is going to be a few steps in doing this but it will be really easy.

That is an excellent thought, I might take that into consideration tomorrow when i start to work on them...The best part about doing the holds yourself is you can custom shape it to whatever feels the best. I like a wide stance too!

That's what I did with mine.
I had the WD as a base but I ended up cutting and bending them up quite a bit.

Now my toes are all the way out to the side of the boat with the heels about 1/2" off.
I also moved them further forward and a bit higher than the tray (to clear the exhaust). By raising them I lost the ability to add as much padding on the bottom as I would like. Next time I would have bent the exhaust tube slightly or glassed around it and retained as much space in the hold for padding as possible.

I did this on my old 650 and adet did it on his fx1. Make sure you sand the foam smooth it sculps like that ******** you stick plants in so you can rough out the shape then hit it up with some 60 grit. When your covering them in glass you have to use epoxy resin or it won't stick. Mock up some cloth to the right size and have plenty of overhang. You don't want to be spreading epoxy on the edge of the cloth or your gonna get some nasty clumps of separated fibers and your gonna real frustrated real fast. Don't worry about cutting it to fit just figure out how your gonna get that peice folded preferably somewhere on the top of the foot. Mix up some epoxy and paint it on the area your gonna glass in and let it set for about 2-4 hours depending on the temp and speed of the hardener. After it gets tacky like dried up mapel syrup stick the cloth on and wet it out and get rid of all the bubbles. Once the first layer gets sort of tacky to the point the cloth won't pull up, (1 hour maybee) start laying a few overlapping peices here and there to reinforce the first layer. These peices can have cut ends on them because they willl lay in and wet out easily because they will stick to the first layer and also suck up some of the excess resin. I would prob lay a good bit of glass in the bottom of the holds and across the tray to make up for all the material you removed. If the cloth gets too wet or starts to 'float' get a rag and blott out the extra resin then wring out the rag if it gets soaked. This will get you a pretty consistant wet out on the fabric and save you some sanding time in the end and prevent some drips. This isn't the best way to glass them in but it will save you time and a headache. I am gonna try and find some pics of my old 650's holds when I was putting them in. I hope this helps

So far I still like these better than the 24-7's and the WCF's. Having your feet straight rather then like a duck is so much more cofortable. Having an extra $130 isn't bad either.

The first footholds were done this way....................... not talking about the rectangular kind.........

I don't understand why you would cut out the area for your legs with your holds (or why water dawg does it either). what happens when you land nose high?

I thought about that...its an experiement, but im sure it will work fine. By nose high are you talking about falling out the back of the holds? I'm not too worried about doing that because i went nose high all the time without holds...plus im hoping that the trayside will be snug against my ankle/side of the shin. Geez i have a test today...study time!

no, I mean you land with the nose almost vertical and you need to lean far forward but you leg hold isn't letting bend your ankles and lean your legs forward.

Excellent point. My entire leg/foot is not going to be in the tray side...But you are right, there needs to be some more trimming up around the ankle/shin area to allow for straight-leg-leaning forward, At some point standing flat footed my calf will not stretch any further and that will roughly be the angle I will need. and plan on having the top of my foot/ankle be in the cup hold and help be the pivot point. I have a few ideas to cure that mess up. thanks for the input demon :arms:
