built your own rideplate

Has anyone ever built there own ride plate? I would like to build a shortened one with a "D" cut. My ski has a R and D extended ride plate and I don't want to cut it. I work in a high end machine shop as a welder on nights so I can use anything I want. I was thinking steel and powder coating because steel is the easiest to work with. Then when I get something built that I like I would build an aluminum one.

You can make a composite one, glass or carbon. Use foam to get a basic shape, bondo to final shape. Wax, PVA, pull mold. Wax, PVA, pull part.

One of our guys recently made a carbon fiber one for my freak. get a plate you like for a base, make the changes you want (he started with a stock plate, he added rocker to mine, and made the changes to fit the lines/ contours of my superfreak better). now that we have a mold we can make as many as we need if they break.
