Since I got quite a few comments on this cart at Daytona, I thought I'd post a little bit of info on it. It's not the best thing out there by any means but it's incredibly simple and fits inside any car, suv, etc. Getting the ski off the ground is a little difficult by yourself but my skinny @ss can get my waterlogged ski on it after riding so it's not bad. I then use a strap on the nose to keep the ski from sliding forward while I push it.
I bought the wheels on eBay and they cost $37 with shipping. They are 18x9.5". Unfortunately, I didn't realize that they were rear wheels and didn't have the bearings like the fronts. So I cannibalized the bearings from some little dolly wheels that I had bought in the past for $5 each and drilled into the tractor wheels. So I guess I technically have $47 in the wheels.
I then bought the axle which was a 5/8" steel rod ($7) and drilled holes in it. I also bought 3 - 3' L angles ($21) from Lowes. Then I mounted the axle to the L angles with two u-bolts for a few cents each. I originally tried to use some 2x6” boards lying around to make the bunks but the ski rubbed the tires so I was forced to buy a 2x10” board to use instead ($5). Some of that 2x10” board was then used to support the cart itself. Then paint…who doesn’t have random spray paint lying around? I figure misc. hardware might’ve cost me an extra $5. So after all is said and done, I spent $85 which is more than I would’ve expected but then again, I already had some of that stuff so it didn’t really cost me that much.
Picture of the ski on it a little later...
