Broke my pull, how much shorter than stock should I go?

So I broke my pole this yesterday morning under the chin pad. tomorrow after work I am going to fix and reinforce it. While helping a friend out with their ski today they mentioned that the freestyle guys shorten theirs poles two inches. Makes perfect since why, my question is though, is 2 inches the best for my ski. Should I go more or less. I am barely 6'0 tall and have an 89 650 and ride only surf (or a little beyond the surf for now:)
thanks

Brett your 650 is just a stepping stone ski. Don't worry about shorting poles, adding pipes, tubbies or extra HP, etc. Just ride that thing as it is and get the hang of surfriding. Fix the broken pole as cheaply as possible so you don't have to spend a lot of money which you will never recover. I'm not trying to be a dick, I'm trying to be helpful and save you $ in the long run. We've all been there, there's a reason why everyone advised you to at least get a SN Superjet. Your are going to find that out rather quickly.

BTW just an FYI, a kawi 650 and a SN SJ 650 are not even comparable skis. A kawi 650 is a very obsolete ski while a Yamaha SN 650 is actually a pretty decent ski

John is right... I used to have a 550 and I was dead set on the idea that i could build it up to make it work for me... then after putting it all on paper, in order to get it to perform even close to as good as a superjet or sxr I could buy a used superjet and put footholds and bars on it

And as for getting a sn... if you dont have the money for a round nose, the square is perfectly fine! It literally has nearly the same bottom deck as a roundnose!

John you are a dick but you are right.Ha,ha,ha For 600 - 1000 for a used sn and a few mods you can punish that thing for years to come. That broken handle pole is just the start. You will need to get a job at U.S. composites or spend your nights searching for donor hulls on craigslist as those hulls have their own Origami Folding Instructions from Kawasaki when ridden in the surf.

Ya I want a superjet but need to fix this one first, it wouldn't cost me a penny more to shorten it while fixing it then to just fix it is the only reason I would do it to this ski. And I don't plan on adding any performance parts to it. Someone mentioned to me they may have a lead on a square nose which I am going to try for if it pans out but otherwise will ride this one for a little bit longer till one of my cars sells.

flap dem wings johnny!
im 5'10 an shortend my stock pole on my sj to -3 and loved it. when u finally get a sj buy an adjustable poll an u can really exsperiment. i just got the xmetal pole asjustable that goes down to -4 from stock plus i got the adjustable steering. havent finished my build yet to try it but i here nothin but good bout xmetal poles

I am at -2 but honestly it feels like a stock pole... and I love it! I hate bending my back over all the time when I ride... I like to be comfortable haha... people say it is easier to slash, flip, and do everything with a super short pole but I dont really notice much of a difference when I ride.. except the fact that my back does not hurt haha... but to each his own.. it is all personal preferance

pole length

Im pretty short about 5'9 and i have the minus two U.M.I and my low back still really hurts when i ride, most likely cause im a flatwater dude nd spend way to much time in my holds but overall besides my back i really like the length for rolls and jus riding, i actually even want to get a shorter turn plate and straight bars making it shorter yet, just to try. I think the back pain has alot to do with stance...
