Before I send my 701 crank to crankworks to be inspected because it keeps breaking timing keys after 5 or 6 start ups. Could a flywheel also cause of timing key to break? I'm just going through my option before i tear down this motor over such an annoying issue:splatt:

Never sheared a key on a yamaha, but I had it happen plenty of times on a kawasaki engine. I ended up lapping the flywheel/crank surface a bit and solved the problem. Also had it happen several times when a cdi went bad and was throwing timing off/backfiring. Are you backfiring?

The first time I broke a key it backfired through the exhaust. Now with the second key broken its not yet
