Brocks Gulf Tribute Build! **Test Ride\Problems**

just arrived home with the hull. Felt like the longest day ever. non stop driving from 6:45AM to 8:00PM... but it is here, now the work begins. BIG thanks to shane (mcdog) for putting this together for me like it should be put together, and not half-done like others were...

What all types of fillers\bondo should I get to start working on it?

For any holes that required some structure, I used bondo hair but epoxy with fibers or some kind of thickener would be better. Although, I think Shane filled most if not all of the big holes. Sand down what you can and if you still find little voids that you can't get rid of, use some kind of bondo or epoxy with thickener. I used a high quality bondo (not the cheap walmart stuff) on mine and it's been holding up fine.

Somebody give this guy some links to the products he needs. This is a total learning experience for him.

Good luck Brock. I can't wait to see how it turns out.

Im pretty sure all the holes are filled. The only major things that need to be done are fill the front of the hood so that the liner and the hood look like one, and fill the defect on the front lip. Thats all the major stuff that needs to be done body work wise. All the rest is just making everything even and smoothing out the hood corners\rear gunwhale corners and such.

I have some epoxy, cabosil and glass coming my way from us composites. But I still think I should use some type of filler other than epoxy\cabosil because that stuff seems like a pain to sand smooth.

started to fill the hood today and the big crease on the left side... first time with bondo. its not terribly difficult its pretty much like wood filler which i have a lot of experiance with. It by no means is fun. I can see why it costs a lot for prep work. the bottom is pretty much ready its in good condition, same with the top, its pretty much just the hood that needs all the work. Im not too terribly concerned with prep work though, Im trying not to rush but Im in a hurry to get on the water.

I still need to reinforce some spots that im iffy about too.

I think im going to put 2 layers down in the footholds, just for peace of mind. im sure its strong but I can flex it a little with my fingers. Also a little behind where the bulkhead should be on the topdeck, there are a couple thin spots where light is coming through. just for peace of mind again. Im sure its strong, but im just doing it for my sake.

Peace of mind is priceless. Keep in mind that waternut didn't reinforce anything and his bulkhead is held in with 5200 only and so far so good after lots of big air.

Agreed... If you can't ride without worrying, by all means, make it a tank. Just remember, any area you reinforce creates high stress concentrations at the ends of the reinforcement and those areas are going to be more likely to crack now. The way I saw it was this... Beef up the areas where failure is critical like the motor mount plates and pole mount since failure in those two areas will almost certainly cause a hull loss or at least a very extensive repair. For everything else, beat the crap out of it and see how it's doing after a few rides. Not everything needs to be rigid...sometimes it's nice to have parts that can give a little under impact. It helps absorb the load. Nothing is crack-proof...

Alright... I have no idea what Im going to do about the pole bracket. the major problem is it is too short. I will not be able to open my pole that much, and the second problem is there are no holes cut so i would have to get the two holes lined up perfectly. But I am dead out of cash, cant afford an xmetal. But on the xmetal i would have to build up material underneath on the inside, I dont really feel like doing that though. I dont really know what do do at this point.

It seemed to short to me too. That's why it was free and I didn't think it would work. Mow some lawns or something. There is a bracket that would work on ebay for $80 I think.

Yeah, nevermind. That one isn't lowered. The $95 x-metal is your best deal. Save money by doing a rattle can paint job and do it better later.
