Brocks Gulf Tribute Build! **Test Ride\Problems**

Paint... Then assembly. I have every part needed (maybe missing a few bolts, I will find out) Just waiting on paint still, Im not rushing my coach though, hes very busy and hes getting me a killer deal on this paint, 1 quart of base blue and 1 quart of base orange, and 2 quarts of clear, and epoxy primer for $100.

I did do a test on those strap inserts, those things arent going anywhere with just that epoxy and thickener. I pried and pulled on those things TRYING to break them loose and they werent moving. I will add a layer or two of biax over them to be safe. Now the battery tray on the other hand will be very built up, I can see how waternut had a problem with that thing with a heavy battery getting thrown everywhere the ski gets thrown I can see how it could break easily.

Let me know if you need any bolts.l should be done with mine in a week.Should have some bolts left over for you.ls skool out for the summer?

Basically. Classes are done, Im just taking exams now, only two more to take. We get to leave at noon.

Great news, my paint is ready to pickup but I need to find somewhere that sells epoxy primer, Hopefully napa can get me some. Maybe I can get time in the booth during the week this week if not it will have to wait until the following weekend\week. Im heading to Mass. for the Factory Five open house, then ill really get to see a some gulf cars!

I just used the scuffed up gel coat as my primer but my paint was pretty dark and could easily hide any area that I used bondo on. Just a thought...

Well I have lots of bondo and light paint. It probably wont be that expensive anyways, better safe than sorry. I glassed in the strap inserts and added a layer to my enclosures to make them a tad bit longer. Just waiting on that stuff to dry now.

cut my breather holes\bolt holes. Obviously you can see my work isnt that great, look how uneven the pole bracket is when its lined up perfectly.

this might be a problemo depending on what hose i get for my breather tubes, if its stiff and not flexible I might have a problem. Hopefully I can find some soft stuff. Also I was planning on running the stock filler neck (obviously cutting it some) and gas cap but the hole will be extremely close to the breather holes. Dont know what to do about this one

This is where my silencer will go. Not going to put it up front because I will not be able to put a water line on it easily with the 300sx tank. I just have to find a way to secure it.

here is how the tank sits and how the inserts turned out

You can go down to home depot and get some pool hose.Black and blue looking. You can see some of it on my pole work pics.Inserts look fine! Why don't you either wrab the slincer in more matt material or in foam they use to wrap water lines? You could put a couple more inserts to hold down it down.l have some extra short straps if you want them.

I have plenty of straps. I guess I could make some more inserts. I just have to find somewhere local that sells that thick aluminum and then ill hhave to cut it and it will be a pain. I think I can rig something up without inserts. Ill have to look again at the pool hose. We have the same blue\black stuff but it seems really big. I think the breather holes are like 1 5\8ths.

I still need to solve my fuel tank filler problem. I dont really know what to do. My bracket seems to be in the same location as yours sanoman but your filler hole is like in the middle between the pole bracket and the edge of the hoodline. Mine would be right on the breather holes. I cant scoot the tank forward any because the hood rim would hit the pickups\cap.

Another problem... Battery location. I think this is the only spot it will be able to go. and I will need a freaking small battery. Whats the smallest battery I can use? surprisingly my k&n filter fits under the hood just fine. Will upgrade later on to a stock one.

l made some extra inserts.lf you want them, let me know. You have the same xmetal bracket l have.l used the hose from home depot.

l'm experimenting with my tank.l heat molded another filler neck off a 550 tank futher up the tank.(That is my little secret on where my external hose hole is!) lt reallly should stay together.Used the same method before on repairing a tank that had a hole in it.l would not suggest doing this way until l can go beat on it for a while.l'll keep you posted.

Someone makes a sealed battery that is smaller. And l really wanted to put my batt in the same spot, but my bulkhead and B pipe prevented that from happening.

Don't worry about those cut holes man. You'll barely even notice and I doubt anyone else will notice once it's all hooked up.

Luckily, you have a stock ignition so using a small battery won't be that big of a deal. Do a little searching on lightweight batteries. Your options are pretty good but if you run your bilge 100%, you'll probably have to charge the battery ever so often even though you're running stock ignition.

I will research the batteries. I dont feel like spending a ton on one though. maybe $50 at max. Sano, want to post picks of your tank or is it all shoved in there already? I also just learned I will have to drop in my bpipe chamber before the engine goes in...

most people are having good luck with the Everstart ES4-LB from Walmart cost about $30-40. I bought 2 of them for this season. in case it dies on me (run bilges alot) i'll have a backup. but for $40 and being only 4LB's you cant get a better deal even if it only last a season. somethign to look into. there are several lightweight batterys people use that are nearly as cheap.

Yea,l'm feeling you on the b pipe going in before engine.Didn't know for sure, but suspected...........

I didnt really pay attention when I was disasembling my old ski if I got the chamber in with the engine in or not.

assembly:
1. Pole Bracket
2: Tank
3: b pipe chamber
4: Engine\ebox
5: headpipe

One thing you might need to think about is putting on a hood seal before paint so your lines match up exactly from hull to hood. Not sure if you can do that, just something to think about though. Lookin freakin sweet man

hmmm, good idea. I dont even know if im running a hood seal on this. Its a really tight fit without it, I might just run a strip of turf.

I went to a local boat repair place, asking if they wanted to sell me 1 yard or two of 8 or 6oz glass. They were kind enough to give me 2 yards of 6 oz for free. they said just stop back anytime if I needed anything they said they usually have left over supplies theyd give me.

But look what has arrived

The b pipe chamber will fit into a normal SJ while the engine is in place but unfortunately you have to put the chamber in place before you put the engine in on the stunt hull (at least with a normal midshaft). Just a heads up to help you avoid installing and the removing the engine unnecessarily.
