First thing is to get rid of the oil injection ($15.00) and get some aftermarket bars. You may think about blocking off the crankcase drain (safety) and having the stock exhaust pipe modded (cheap) and head milled. Other than that I would not put much money into it unless you want practice for the future SuperJet you will own.

The 650SX was what first got me hooked and it was plenty of fun.

and i would stay away from those northern alabama boys as well, and the southern ones come to think of it.:smlove2:
it's ok,they know who they are.
seriously, enjoy your 650,then one day sell it and if you like the sport get something else.
nothing wrong with a 650 btw.it's a good platform to learn on.
do some minor (cheap)mods to it(impeller, compression, oil pump, pipe mod etc..)

650 was my first as well. power wise, its a dog and its heavy. i wouldnt do too much motor mods because u will be upgrading ur ski soon. i would def do a 44mm carb handlebars, pole spring and some other little bolt on parts. (intake, ride plate, prop). that should be enough to get u started and learning.

all my 650 had was a 44mm carb and prop. it made some pretty good power.

learn on that ski and every other ski will be a breeze to ride

ride man...if you have the money to spend then add on whatever these guys say but if not dont waste your money cause im sure your going to want to upgrade after this summer. Congrats and have fun!

^^^ I agree. Keep it stock and learn the ropes. You will be upgrading in the future! Everything i know about skis I have learned on the X. Endless information. Welcome and enjoy your new addiction!

650SX is a fine beginner ski. If you mod it get used parts off of here, PWCToday or Ebay. 650Sx stuff is usually pretty cheap. Search around here and PWCToday for the stock exhaust modifications. They allow you to inject less water into the pipe and make more power. If you have the early 650Sx with the tiny carburetor then look into upgrading it with a 44mm carb off a Yamaha. You can buy a manifold for that (I have one) or an adapter plate and some time with a grinder to allow the 44mm to fit.

Have fun!!
