GASKETS FOR CHAMP BRAP!
Front page of the Havasu News(City newspaper) today:

The toys came in from Phoenix, San Diego, Florida, Sacramento, Calif., and even Edmonton, Alberta. All to benefit children in need in Lake Havasu City.

The personal watercraft racing community turned Saturday’s annual Christmas practice at Body Beach into a toy drive, gathering up to 200 toys and cash to benefit Interagency Councils’ Adopt-a-Family program.

“We always try to gather around Christmas time to ride when Mac (world champion PWC racer Chris MacClugage) suggested we make it a charity ride this year. It made sense,” said organizer Chris Hagest. “We all love Lake Havasu City, and Body Beach is the reason we’re here so what better place to gather and help Havasu’s kids?”

Riders travel home for the holidays and couldn’t make it to the event still managed to participate by sending toys and checks with others making the trip — like Jason Billings, of Benicia, Calif., and Nick Rasmussen, of Sacramento.

“We came down just for this,” Rasmussen said. “I don’t race Jet Skis except for fun, I race motocross. But it’s all family.”

In addition to the racers, the drive also got commercial support in the form of two large bags of toys from the owners and employees of Walt’s Motorsports.

“This industry is from all over,” said Mike Ingram, whose son Kris brought toys from riders in the Phoenix area. “That’s what makes this sport rock.”

Rich Miers, executive director for Interagency Councils was on hand to accept the donations. He said his agency is assisting 250 local families in need this holiday and will accept donations through Tuesday.

“This is exactly what this sport is about,” said world champ Mark Queen, originally of Illinois and now Lake Havasu City. “This sport is about helping the kids.”
