SXR : Blowsion Tubbies install

I have a question about installing the blowsion tubbie destroyer sponsons. I have been told here in Tokyo that I will have to take out the motor, gasoline tank, and water box to do this installation. However I read that this model was made so they can be removed easily. It they can be removed easily then I would assume that you can get your hands into the engine bay to do this. Then you should be able to install them this way as well. Sorry I a little new to this. Does anyone have any advice or pics.

Are you installing in an sxr ?

I installed them in a Rn superjet, followed instructions included with the destroyers, removed battery, gas tank, maybe water box but I forget, then held the tubbies in place as a templet & drilled the 3 pilot holes thru the hull each side, then re-drilled only the hulls holes larger, then epoxied in the stainless insets into the hull holes and mounted the tubbies.
To remove you unscrew the tubbies, but have 3 holes in hull each side so those must now be plugged, can use bolts to plug

Yes I will be installing them on my SRX. Epoxying the stainless inserts allows for easy removal. Now I get it. I'm trying to prevent having to take out the motor so if it is only fuel tank and water box then made I can do it myself. ($600 plus for installation here in Tokyo) I'm thinking that your not actually removing the tank and water box but undoing them and moving them enough to get your hands in?

just take everything out, it really isn't that hard and it makes life so much easier when installing the inserts

it can be done without removing anything.just fish with your hands and vacuum the debris out.
just pulling the tank will make it easier though.

You don't have to remove the engine. It's not worth the risk of damage and hassle to do the job with the fuel tank in.

They are almost $400 a set new before shipping here in the US.
On the templet question and drilling location your tubbies is the templet. The tubbie has pre drilled holes in it, just line the tubbie up on your hull and drill thru those pre drilled holes, remove tubbie, then those holes you just drilled into your hull get drilled again only larger this time so the shoulder of the stainless insert can line, protect and center the new hole.
They come new with instructions on placement of tubbies how far forward from rear and how far up to bond line they go.
On my superjet I installed them flush with bottom of the hull and not all the up into the bond line. If I did it over I would install them all the way up touching the bond line so I'd have a small lip or step on hull side before tubbie started to help with stability. Mine us flush on the bottom in other words.
No motor removal required on mine but taking the tank, battery and battery box, cant remember on the water box, out helped with installation

Thanks for the advice and the photos. I agree that on the SRX the sponson should go up to the bond line. I just ordered the destroyers from a supplier here in Tokyo. He gave me $50 off. I'm looking forward to the challenge. I hope the instructions are in english not just Japanese. I will post pictures when I'm done. The picture in my first thread was taken after I installed a stainless steel (Un-Limited) step with new hydro turf.

Little more info, after you've drilled the holes in the hull your to sand and scuff or rough the area around the holes in the engine bay for the epoxy to adhere those octagon nuts to, having some of the above mentioned parts removed makes that task a little easier. I think I removed my b-pipe chamber too for access. The bolts supplied are long and a couple I cut shorter after I installed so they would not hit my pipe.
The instructions on mine said use sealer around the tubbie perimeter 1/2 from edge and around the bolt holes, problem is now I can't get them off without destroying them.
I'd suggest only putting a small amount of sealer around the bolt holes don't use any around the perimeter, in case you want to remove them at some point.
When I called blowsion on best way to remove them with their sealer they said they don't recommend sealing the perimeter any more for this reason, too late in my case

Good to know. I assume that the sealer around the holes does just that. Prevents any water from entering the hull. Thanks again for the advice. Now I'm just waiting for the delivery.

Thanks. The wedge/turf turned out nice but there must be a better way to cut out the hole. That's the only part that doesn't look factory. I would keep the bottom piece longer next time and tuck it in. I may put in some foot holds for surf riding but that won't be until next winter. Ive never done fiberglass but it doesn't look that hard.
