Blaster Mod Pipe in SJ - Instead of a dent, how about ...

Hey,

I know that a lot of the people that put a blaster mod pipe in their SJ's end up denting the pipe to clear the tank, but has anyone considered moving the gas tank up in the hull about an inch to clear the pipe instead of denting it?

I'm waiting on getting my hull back from Yamaslut ... he's doing the paint, and a few other things for me, but I was thinking, why not just move the tank forward an inch or so?

Sorta thinking that if I put some kind of rubber mount glued to the hull on the bottom to keep it forward, then put like a piece of PVC pipe wrapped in HydroTurf under the straps on the side of the tank that faces the engine, I might be able to keep the tank in place an inch or so closer to the front of the hull, which would let it clear ...

Any thoughts? I mean, the dent can't be more than an inch ... can it?

Just heat mold the tank and good to go.

I've done it that way years ago, too.

Try not to have gas in the tank while you do this.

I thought you had to dent the chamber to clear the hull? like this pic? When I tried to mount mine in my SN it was hitting on the hull near the headpipe

They slid right into a 08-10 SJ. The tank is postitioned about a 1/2 inch forward from previous years but you still have to dent it a bit.
