Billet Crank???

After daytona I am going to install a billet crank into my SS Lamey PV motor. My hot rods crank has about 4 years on it. Has anyone run one? Notice a difference? I picked this crank up off a buddy. It had a bent rod but I sent it off to crankworks and had a complete rebuild on it. It is a RAD SS crank. They are supposed to be lighter that stock or hot rods cranks. How much lighter are they?

once crankworks rebuilds it, it will be like new
they are very strong (as are the crankworks billet cranks)
as long as rust doesn't build up or you hydro-lock it you will be fine, but that applies to all cranks
how much lighter? i don't know

Yes, there is a difference between the Rad billet crank, they vibrate more in a freestyle engine and are more suited for race at higher RPM's, Must use higher pop-off with them to keep the carbs from dribbling.

We have a rad and I think a crankworks +8mm cranks at the shop. I'll throw them on the scale next time I'm there and I'll weigh a stock crank too.

Yep - you have a RAD 8MM stroker (triangular webs).

Rebuilt by Crankworks, one of the rods was replaced as well as all the bearings.

I have heard that about these cranks. Full circle cranks are supposedly better balanced, but the RAD's are lighter according to Crank Works. I have also heard that b/c of the triangular webs the airflow within the cases is not as smooth

RAD +8mm 19lbs. 3 oz.
Crankworks +8mm 18lbs. 8oz.
Unknown Mfg. with 650 crank webs +8mm 18lbs 8oz.
rusty stock crank 19lbs. 3.5oz
Unknown +5mm billet crank 20lbs 10.5oz.

All cranks weighed with full bearings, and the rear seal sleeve but no seals.

Interesting I wonder why?

Durability is crap compared to a steel bearing, the performance you get out of them is nil compared to the extra maintenance.

I am sure CW is wise and wants to avoid blown-up crank/engine threads like the one last week.

Never good for a crank builder

Good man.

I weighed a 12 and 16, a stock crank and even a 4mm billet kawi crank. I don't remember where I posted the weights though.
