bilge pump wiring

I need to no how to wire my bigle pump.I have one of those universal aftermarke t bilge switch that goes on my handlebars.It has on black wire and on white wire.Then my bilge pump itself has a brown[hot],and a black[negative] so how do i wire it?

pump negative to ground
one side(either side doesnt matter) of switch to power(this is where ya want the fuse),the other side to pumps power in.

Anyway, to add confusion, If were running a switch on the bars I'd put it on the ground side. Pump hot right to battery + (fuse there). Then switch to battery '-' and back to pump. It doesn't make a difference electrically, but the wires up the pole have a greater risk of wearing through and shorting out some day.

That's a good point - run the negative/black wire up the pole and direct connect the live - if the negative wears through and shorts out you won't get a fire/shorted battery!

Very good point. It's usually better to switch negative vs. positive.

Negative to switch and ground the power wire, it is not rocket science.

How about simple, because not everyone understands electricity like some people.

Positive on battery to brown on pump.
Black on pump to white on switch.
Black on switch to negative on battery.

If you want to fuse it, put an inline fuse in the wire from positive to brown, as close to the battery as you can.
