Bilge Pump Setup

Location

What is the most reliable setup for installing bilge pumps in a SJ? Last time I just glued (epoxied) them to the hull, but found either the pump would quit, or the bottom would break at least 2x/year. Are the metal mounts any better, and who sells the best/cheapest?

Thanks

I have had my pumps glued to the hull for 2.5 years now with hardly any issues. I used 5200 and roughed up the pump bottom and the hull.
I have used epoxy in the past with varying success. Surface prep and patience are key.

Exactly what I did with no issues.

I had used Attwood and Rule pumps, and both have eventually failed, it was not usually the bond to the hull, but rather the mounting tabs break on the pump, or the pump burns out or plugs up (even though the strainer is still intact).

I use an aluminium mount with a small piece of turf under the pump to keep it from rattling. Its fairly easy to remove and put back on.

apply a little bit of 5200 on the botom and glue on either or both sides near midshaft. mine have yet to come out. i would assume any pump will die eventually. the rule's are cheap enough so having to replace them every few seasons isnt too bad.

Yup, Just buy whatever is cheapest, I dont expect them to last for too long.

I realize the pumps will have to be replaced, just thought it would be easier to replace them on a mount vs. stuck to the hull, especially if the tabs break off the bottom strainer part and it has to be replaced as well. Also thought slightly higher volume since water can enter through the bottom rather than just the sides.

I see Blowsion has a dual mount setup, what does this mount to?

I actually drill and screw the bottom strainer to the bottom of the hull. I use small S/S screws with a washer under. Sits tight but easy to remove if needed. As the bottom is thick in this area I judged it to be a safe route.
