Bilge install ?'s

Ok so I installed my pump with one of blowsion's single pump mounts hanging off the midshaft bolt, looks good! I have a blowsion handbar switch mounted with cable down thru the pole.. How the hell do I get it thru the black boot into the hull? Oh and is braided hose not plyable enough for bilge hose?

I shouldn't even be posting advice since you STOLE my FX1, but . . . . .

Work it, baby, work it!

No, really, you just keep working at it and cussing. I, along with many others I'm sure, would like to hear if anybody has a nifty tip on this one. Have you tried a wire to fish it down? Put a hunk of wire up from below, bend the end over the cable end and pull it back through that way.

I believe I've seen guys use the braided hose, but I think most use the ribbed for more flexibility.

It feels like there is a harder center plug that's cut for the existing cables.. You mean fish it down the side of this, or down thru it in the same hole as another cable? I bought braided hose cause it looked the best out of my choices but it looks like it'd almost kink with any bending to go out the hull, not to mention it pushes on the bilge pump which is TIGHT by the shaft as it is

run a wire coat hanger down the boot till you can grab it from the bottom, then tape the end of the wire to the hanger still exposed at the top and yank it through.

DONE!

Ok that idea sounds straight forward but the cable i'm trying to get thru is almost as thick as the steering cable.. Which is fine but should I go thru a hole in the plug that's in the boot or just down the side of the plug?:aargh4:

either or will be fine. i'd just go around the plug b/c once you put the tie wrap back on and tighten it up, it will seal that area back up... but I personally don't run that little plug b/c it is always such a pain to get into place.

or, if you for some reason are not using the stock air/water seperater, you can use that hole in the plug. Just pull the blue tube out and replace it with your bilge wire.

if its the stock sj boot just cut the zip tie then open up the seam for one of the holes...should just pop right in there.

a lot easier than pulling and you wont stress the wire

^^^^ask me how i know that...

Dude that's awesome! I was just needing to know if it'd make a difference, thanks everyone. Oh and Sharon, you or your husband any good at turf? :puppy_dog_eyes: lol

Wait so that plug just pulls out and slides back in? Because if so I'll just enlarge one of the holes! And yea OX there were two blue hoses with plastic things attached, I guess I need those?

oh ya... forgot there is two...

One blue tube is a vent for the battery. If you are not using a wet cell battery (at battery with a vent) then you don't need that blue tube.

The other blue tube goes to that little white plastic thingy that is riveted to the under side of the hood seal lip on the exhaust side of the ski. Some people remove these.

And yes, the plug will slide in and out of the boot.

Yea I still need both then. I'll just pull the plug out and enlarge a hole to make it work. Thanks again man

And probably a dumb question but with a handle-mounted switch your going to have a little wireloom from bottom of switch to where you tuck it under the cover no matter what you do right?

We both hate turfing, so I am reluctant to admit any skill whatsoever for fear that someone might actually want us to help them do a turf job.

If you merely want supervision, someone to tell you, "Oh, yeah, that looks great", "No that's fine, everyone gets cement in their hair", "no, don't worry about that, no one will ever notice it", "no really, it's perfectly normal to have the turf stuck to the handlepole", then we'll be delighted to help.

:jester:

LOL! I was actually looking for someone local to help (not do) with the turf.. I've never attempted it before, and would hate for it to look bad. Since I'm talking about it when people say buy b-stock that means what? I looked on their website and don't see b-stock anywhere. Would a sheet be enough for the tray, gunwhales, dash and rails on an fx-1?

I've never had to turf everything all in one go. The rails are what might throw a kink (just leave it alone AJ) into things depending on what pattern you use to turf the rails. Some cut straight pieces and bend it around the curve of the nose. Some actually cut curved pieces (this is what the rail turf kits have) that match the curve of the boat. This, theoretically, would help keep the turf from wanting to peel up as much, which is the biggest problem with turfing the rails.

Cutting curved pieces is more difficult and uses more of the turf (and leaves more waste). I suspect it might be worth getting a pre-cut rail turf set, then a sheet for the rest. A single, full sheet is definitely enough for the rest.

I suspect we could manage to provide some supervision and direction if you need. We sometimes have a whole gaggle of guys working on their boats, quads, bikes, etc at our house some days. PM me when you get ready to start and I'll talk to the hubby and see when a good day would be.

Oh, and bear in mind that the black and grey has a molded in texture whether diamond or grooved pattern. The colored turf has a cut texture and the turf ends up thinner. I don't think it is a durable, either. A good thing to know when you are ordering turf.
