Bilge Install Question???

Hey Guys.

just was getting the bilge pump installed today and I bought a single bilge pump bracket from Wamilton when I ordered the kit from him and I wanted to make sure this is correct. I first removed the stock bilge or skimmer whatever you want to call it along with the bracket and installed the new bracket that goes around the bearing housing. Once I installed that I put the bilge pump in and it is REALLY I mean super close to the drive shaft area and I was just wondering if that is how all of them are suppose to be? I was thinking of getting some heat wrap and shrink it around the bilge wires but it concerns me on how close that sits. Is that normal?

Thanks Everyone

I didn't put my bilge pump where you did.

I put my bilge pump between the battery and the firewall. It doesn't move or get in the way. Doing it this way I was also able to leave the stock bilge in.

I removed the stock bilge, 2 reasons a lot of people say it backfills water and also need that line to create my duel cooling on my pipe. The bracket is designed to go around the bearing housing also so that was really my only location with the bracket.

FYI: The bilge line is routed in such a way that back-filling is impossible unless the water is pumped through the line.

If the required placement of the bracket worries you, why use the bracket at all? Haven't people installed bilge pumps without using that bracket.

As to the original question, if nothing is moving around: just secure the bilge electrical wires and you should be fine.

my buddy's bilge pump has a removable basket on the bottom. he used a quarter sized amount of epoxy to fix in to the bottom of the hull. it pulls water in from the sides of the basket so it didn't hinder the performance. once it was dry i just popped the bilge pump on and ready to rock with a few wires and a cheap switch.

yeah you can just glue it to the bottom of your haul but its cleaner looking on a bracket and also dont have to worry about it coming off or breaking from hitting a hard wave. just wasnt sure if it was normal with those brackets to be that close to the bearing housing.
