Other big bores

this is a general question about ski motors...

i come from owning/working on many two stroke toys but never a ski. well i was wondering what are your options when it comes to a blown motor and the cylinder walls are trashed.

for me: i am wondering about the 701 in a SJ. ive tried looking up big bore kits but they all cost a few grand by the time its said and done. ive never sleeved a two stroke cylinder, how does that let the gasses/air flow easily outside of the sleeve and through the cylinder walls...either leaving the exhaust port or entering though the carbs?

do they not just sell cylinder/piston/head combos that you bolt on and then tune?

ive tried google and ive tried here and from what ive found so far is that you have to send your motor off to a racing company and spend a few grand and theyll build it and ship it back. is that the case? what if you just want to rebuild it to stock specs?

thanks and sorry

A few grand for a big bore topend kit? You're looking in the wrong places. (Assuming you're after an OEM cylinder big bore kit)

Sleeves are just cylinder liners. All ports in the casting line up with ports in the sleeve.
Check out www.blackjackperformance.com or www.xmetalworks.com for reasonably priced big bore kits. You send in a core cylinder and they send you back a complete big bore kit.
Or you can order your own big bore sleeves from places like www.blowsion.com and do the work yourself. However, extensive machining is required.

haha i guess what i am asking is, what are the options if YOU want to rebuild your own motor, either larger bore or same bore. are your only options to bore it and sleeve it? or send it off to an engine builder?

...chaos? Its Fair!
He offers on later in the thread I thought for a few bucks more. And I was mostly posting this for his question of returning the items.to stock specs. I know the maniac setup isn't stock but its kinda close.

If you're comfortable porting, boring, and assembling your own motor, then you can do it yourself.

Ask yourself what your budget and intended goals are.
