what is the best way to get more throw out of the stock blaster steering? i am working on moving the steering cable mounts on the nozzle and handle bars, but is there anything else that would make even the slightest more end result?

i am also making some aluminum braces for the stock plastic nozzle so i do not snap anything in half after all the tinkering with the thing.

thanks guys, any help is greatly appreciated :bigok:

In on the nozzle, out on the steering stem. Your cable only has so much throw and that is the limiting factor on the steering stem. If you move this mounting point to far it will try to force the cable farther than it can go which will eventually break it and they are expensive. It is a beeeaoch to drill so you prob want to take it off to do it but mark the location according to the cable issue first. On the nozzle, just move it in as far as possible, I even trimmed the gusset a bit to get it further in and have had no problem with it breaking (no braces added). You'll also have to modify the steering nozzle a bit where it contacts the reduction nozzle to allow it to turn farther.

If you are going to do this mod, you'd better replace your cable with a B2 cable. The B1 cables are famous for bending/breaking even when you add a longer nozzle. Increasing the throw on the stock nozzle will put a lot of extra stress on the cable.

You will need the cable, both ends and the under hood bracket to hold it.

well i have already drilled and moved the cable at the nozzle. So i guess the point at the bars is next.

As for the B2 cable, we cant afford that at the moment. But sounds like a good idea at a later date.

i got all of the bracing made in shop class today at my highschool, so ill be adding all of that tonight and slap this thing back on the ski.

thanks for the info guys

I normally take your word as gospel Scottie, but IMO a smarter move would be to get a B2 cable if/when the stocker breaks. Mine has been going strong for 3 seasons on this mod with no signs of letting up. Just make sure you have it adjusted properly so the steering is being stopped the stops and not by the pump or cable binding.

Dustin,

I have bent quite a few over the years and it usually only happens when you increase the throw or run a longer steering nozzle. But, I do more bouy riding than anything, so I usually am taking a lot of rpm/speed into turns, that might have something to do with it. We just replace them now whenever we build one, its not a lot of money to get the insurance of never having to worry about it again.

well, i just realized we have an old B2 hull sitting in our backyard. might go scavenge to see if theres a cable on it, though i doubt there is.

Finished up making sure the nozzle clears all of the pump when its turned to full throw, got a good extra 1/2" or so of throw, and that was just in the nozzle so im sure i could get even more if i messed with the steering linkage under the hood.

Too many other problems as of now though, so i have to focus on replacing the starter and getting this thing back up and running.

Also installed some Dakine Primo footstraps yesterday. Not as bad as i thought itd be, but theyre a b**ch to adjust unlike the less fancy ones.

Got another 2 weeks before i get to take this baby out and test it at the Lone Star Freeride comin up :bigok:

the b2 cable is a good idea....only bad part....you will need a special bracket for mounting near the steering stem....not hard at all,,, bogie made mine from one i borrowed from a member here....if you need one let me know.....and did you use nut bolt and plate on the straps?...cause after a bunch of rolls....screws will rip out ...i had big mean screws too still ripped out....Just my 3 cents on this... have a great day

i think that more power and hard turns are what really stress the stock cable...the b2 cable seems like it will take any beating thrown at it...great mod....but the bracket is something i could see people getting frustrated with....but still worth it...Scottie, im interested to know what bracket you used to mount the cable under the hood.

Yes i used 1/8th inch aluminum plates and six stainless Lock nuts, lock washers, washers, and bolts on each side.

I am almost positive these things wont work loose or break for a good long time. I want to keep from coming loose if i ever grow the nads to try backflipping or rolling at the freeride in two weeks. Hopefully all goes well :crutches:

We just mod the stock one. Basically, you bed it open a bit, then space it off the hood assembly with a thick spacer. Works like a charm. I have had a B2 cable in my mod for years, never had a problem pushing/pulling a nozzle WFO with a full 8mm PV Judge built mod motor.

Probably not the big issue for folks who are just play riding or low rpm surf riding, but for me, if the ski is apart, just seems like the easy time to change cables. Just my opinion.

well, i scavenged around the backyard and on the B2 hull. No cable to be found.

But we took it out and water tested it this past saturday, and what a difference that nozzel makes!

i didnt even mess with the underhood steering linkage and i still got a MAJOR change.

I also made sure nothing is being binded or over extended so hopefully there wont be any breakage. Wont know till i get it in the surf and start cranking those bars and slamming the gas :naughty:

I did that mod in my B1 cause i put a "air time product" nozzle a great parts if you looking for extra turn it s just amazing, but you def need a B2 cables i also made a parts like you to fit the extra lenght of B2 cables , but you can
buy a easy and nice adaptator to RAD DUDES if think.

anyway it s gonna change you turn for nose stab or radical turn it s just super !
