Super Jet Best flame arrestor to buy, if it makes a diffrence at all?

I would only run an open filter style filter over the oem flame arrestor on a ski that is a race ski. That is the only application that I could see a benefit to running one. They will make a little more power which when youre racing that will matter. On a freestyle or rec ski where water ingestion is more of a concern over max power, oem is the best move.

That’s exactly why we designed our surf plate. We spent a lot of time getting it right so it performs just as well as aftermarket flame arrestors—without the drawbacks. I run it on my race boat. I tried all sorts of other systems, but they didn’t flow as well. The old adapters used to sit right in the direct path of incoming air, choking off airflow. So I made one that lifts the box up and out of the way. Now that issue’s gone—and I honestly can’t see a reason not to run them.

What top do you run, the 38mm stock SJ one?? Would that flow enough air for a 1200 Dasa on a freestyle ski? Will they fit 50mm carbs?

Yes, it will flow more than enough. The 80 mm hole in the top has 2.5 times the area of your 50 mm carbs. Even if we assume a 10% flow loss due to the right-angle on the front—which would be a massive and unlikely loss—you’re still getting 2.3 times the airflow of your 50s.

On our system, we’ve designed a proper clamp setup that lifts the base of the filter up and eliminates the adapters blocking the 80 mm inlet. This removes the restriction found in other systems.

I run this setup on my race skis with 48 mm Novis, and the jetting doesn’t change at all between having the top on or off. If it were a restriction, the ski would run lean with the top off and rich with it on—but it doesn’t. That tells you everything you need to know.

The stock mesh will still fit so you can also run a single mesh over the carbs if you feel you want to—I don’t, but then again, I also make sure I don’t have bolts flying around inside my ski.
