Best Epoxy/Quick Fixes/Hull Repair

So I ran the bottom of my ski up on rock that was about 10inches below the surface. I saw it and jumped off dragging my leg to try and stop it but as you know its just a piece of glass.:bananalama:

I got more than a ding but the 3inch gouge only made it down to the fiberglass, not into it or through it. Should I go ahead and get a full rework for my 250$ deductible for just that? or whats the best patch/quick fix for significant but not integral scrapes and gouges on the bottom of your hull? Ive asked lots of friends and get totally different answers from all of them.

Another quam is my hull is black so whats the best way to pigment the patch?

Marine tex is great repair material.

I looked it up, West Marine has the epoxy pigments or coloring agents to tint your Marine Tex with. They also say it it dries darker. I don't know how much that would matter with black but you may do a sample.

This is from the Marine Tex directions:

"Marine-Tex can be tinted, using epoxy pigments, or by adding ITW Evercoat coloring agents to the resin before it is mixed with the catalyst"

fill it with anything. i would grind it up, bondo it, put a sticker there. then ride it like you stole it.

id go with that one , stickers were made for a reason.

reassemble
returf
get new handle bars
paint
Ride
Do it again and repeat

or fill it with anything that will stick and go ride

I would use marine tex, or west system epoxy with a filler and pigment. both are good stuf and I have used the marine tex on the white part of the hull, color is not exact but pretty close.

thanks for the research shift. yep, after sanding and painting with epoxy appliance black spraypaint you cant even tell it ever happened. Marine-Tex is def the way to go. thanks ya'll

Thats exactly what I use on small gouges, bigger cracks or repairs and I use pigmented epoxy resin with fiberglass cloth. The Ace hardware epoxy appliance paint works well but it takes several days to fully cure.

I have used marine tex quite a bit on the bottom of mine. We ride shorlines so we are always nicking rocks. A friend of mine turned me on to some stuff called water weld. It is sold at Checker or Autozone. Just cut the amount you need off and mead in your fingers. Then apply in any shape or form to fill whatever you need. It dries within 30 miin and sands easily. I have used it a few times with no issues at all. Touch up with some gloss black paint and good to go.
