It could be something broken in there, pull the head to make sure. Is the ski moded in any way? Preignition/detonation can cause this, then you have to figure out why; lean, not high enough octane, or ignition issue.

150 psi on both cylinders dont think its a ring but will pull head to confirm no mod stock boat ......it was different gas then all other skis my son likes the high premium grade which should be higher octane but was from a mom and pop gas station....

On a stock ski, you really shouldn't NEED premium. If everything under the head looks good, I'd check fuel filter, make sure it's not plugged, check the little filter screen in each carb, check that no air is getting into your fuel line (a loose line can cause air to be sucked in making your carb go lean), then if all that checks out, pull front cover and make sure the ignition pick up mounted in the cover is in good shape and not loose.

The only time premium should be needed is when you bump compression or advance the ignition.

Are you in Tricities, WA? It's nice and warm over there and detonation is more likely in warmer weather. The higher the octane, the slower the flame front, so it's entirely possible that you had detonation occurring in the chamber because of the premium gas and the warm weather...or you got a crappy load of gas.

Ya, sucks. Detonation is the usual cause for a closed gap. Sometimes you get away with the closed gap being the only damage, sometimes the damage happens before the gap closes.

Time for a rebuild, but you need to figure out why the detonation. It's nice to find a smoking gun before your rebuild so you know you won't do this to your fresh engine.

You should pressure test the engine for air leaks. This causes a lean condition and detonation. Oil in your front cover or out the back seals are a sure sign of an air leak as well as oil residue near the base gasket or case gasket.

Next check your carbs and little screen for debris.

Check fuel lines and pickup to make sure you are not sucking air in.
