my bendix was going out, then it just stopped engaging. so i took everything apart, and it was badly rusted. so i just sprayed it with pb and crc 656 and then i moved it till was smooth, put it back togather and tried a direct jump to the starter while the motor was on the tabele, it turned the motor over all three attempts. so i took it back apart and put the bendix in a conatiner of oil to sit over night to make sure any rust is gone. is it possible that doing this will fix it for good or just temperarorily (sp) also what are the torque spext for the flywheel (90 sj 650)

Fly wheel torque for me is a couple good braps from the old impact.

the fix may be good for a long time but it is always nice to have one on the shelf just incase.

soak it in deisel fuel for a bit then when thats done grease it up and you should get some more life out of it . but in the end you will have to buy a new one . torque is 65ft lbs.

Damn you all with your fancy-fangled air tools. :soapbox:

I gotta stick a big wrench in the coupler, hold the engine on the table, and get my wife to torque it.

No, I do not have air tools.
I have ported about 10 cylinders and a few cases with a dremel now.

I keep eyeballing nice porting tools - I really like porting, and my work is getting pretty good. But then I keep telling myself...."You're not charging people, so why spend money on better tools?" :haha:

I got a pile of at least 6 destroyed bendixes in my garage.
One of these days I'll cough up money for a new one.
