Before I make an order I have some questions??

I have my tray cut up and I'm going to be adding tom21 holds. I left a picture so you can see how I cut my tray and I would like opinions on how to glass it back together. I plan on re-using the pieces I cut out to mold the tray back. I have done research and I have came up with a lot of different answers but from what I have gathered this is what I came up with.

1708 Biax with mat for Tray reinforcement.
Is 1708 overkill should I stick with 1208?

1208 Biax with mat for footholds.
Should I use an S-Glass instead to make it easier?

Should I get a S-Glass for a final layer?
Its gonna be covered by Turf will this really matter?

I was gonna do a Half Gallon of Epoxy with a 4:1 Fast Dry. But now I'm thinking I need at least a gallon if I do 1708 and 1208.

This will be my first attempt at a big fiberglass job so I'm a little leary on using materials that may be hard to work with. I'm not an idiot by any means but being the first time it scares me a little. I have read up as much as I could on this but there is so many answers out there and I'm sure all are good. I want strength in my ski but don't want to rack my head try to fiberglass it back together. Thanks in advance I look forward to some good answers from the fiberglassing pros.

As you can see in the picture (sorry about it being sideways) the tray is cracked on the right side but when I cut the holds that should take care of that. Any other recommendations feel free to let me know

Dig out the rest of that foam and put in the EPP stuff from home depot. It will be lighter and not absorb water later one. You might also put in some drain plugs while you have your ski apart.

As far as glass and epoxy, I did two layers of 1208 and one layer of 1708. Build thread is in my sig if you want pictures. You will be fine with s-glass or only 12oz. As far as how much epoxy you need, you will need 1oz per 1oz of glass (17 or 12oz biax). Half gallon should be plenty for the tray but buy the gallon. So when you mix up a big batch and then spill it you will have extra. Also pour the epoxy onto the glass and roll it all out on a piece of cardboard or roll it up nicely and squeeze the epoxy into the glass.

Make sure you drill out that crack. You will not need a gallon of resin. Definitely not, as long as you're conservative with it. I used a quart of resin for footholds, thickened epoxy for gluing the footholds, and two layers of 1708 biax in the tray. And I still had some resin leftover. As long as you can get the tray pieces to lay flat, just lay either cloth or biaxial over the seems. Cloth might be easier, but it's a flat surface so biax could be fine. One or two layers of 1708 over the tray would be plenty for reinforcement. I'd recommend a tightly woven cloth over that to seal it up since biax has pinholes that could leak. More important if you're running two part foam. I'd recommend taking all of that foam out while you're in there and seal up the bond line and all thru hull tubes, and glass and glue in those pump inserts. Do it right the first time. Glue the holds in with epoxy and screws around the flange, let that cure, remove the screws if you want, and put a couple layers of cloth over the seems to seal it up.
Do it right the first time :)
Are you using tom21's big footholds? That's what I'm going with this season too.
Take your time, and prep like crazy! Prep is the most important part. Sand with 36 or 60 grit, and clean with acetone anywhere glass will adhere too. There's a thread about footholds in the tech FAQ section too.
Any other questions, feel free to ask :)

Will 1208 with the mat be ok for the footholds? I like the idea of the Home Depot foam it makes sense for the long run and its cheaper from what I have seen.

So 2 layers of 1708 for the tray and one layer of a tighter weave to seal it up. Epoxy holds in, screw it in with self tapping screws take screws out after it drys and 1208 it in then use a tighter weave to seal it up.

Sounds like a good plan! 1208 might be overkill for the footholds, but would be fine. Probably what I might do too. Yes, home depot foam with drain plugs!

You don't need to foam behind the footholds. Just get as much in as you can.
@Quinc you and me are on like the exact same page :p and posted at the same time haha
