Battery not charging when running the ski

I charge my battery and when it charges it will charge for over an hour and then go to full and then go to fault. I start up my ski just fine with the charged battery but it seems that when i run my ski my battery slowly dies after starting and stopping a good amount until finally my battery is dead. Is there a reason that when I am riding my ski it will not charge?

there are batts that charge complete but won't hold it. check the fluid level, if it's sealed but your charger says fault when it's charging it could be likely that it's your battery. If you ruled that out, do like mark44 said, check your charging system.

I have checked several different boats like this, running and then not running with m y cheapy digital meter, and lots of times, I can see no difference on the meter.

so, if you dont see a voltage increase when its running, dont immediately condemn the charging system.

if you aren't getting more than battery voltage with the motor rev'd up there is something wrong with the charging system. at lower RPM's I'll agree, you may not see more than battery voltage.

It is a good idea to check the battery voltage to see if it is rising but be aware that after a start the battery voltage will rise a bit on its own as it recovers from the heavy load of starting. If you can run the ski on a hose for a couple of minutes then you should see increasing voltage that is rises a little when you raise the RPMs but this is not the best way to test the charging system. The rectifier / regulator module in the Ebox will clamp the voltage to an upper limit at some point. If you know that the battery is good then you need get a service manual and check the lighting coil coming from the stator. I think these are the green wires which you can do a resistance check first with the ski off then a AC voltage check while running. If the stator lighting coil is good then replace the rectifier / regulator module. Check all the connectors for corrosion and wires for continuity while you are at it.
