Battery cable fix

Hey quick question. May even be a stupid question. My battery cable broke inside the elec. box. The brass connector snapped off. I am pretty sure I can cut it back and put on a new connector. I notice a little red wire going to the fuse is also conected here.
I assume you just solder it into the new connector end with the battery cable? Is this correct? thanks

Yep, you gotta have the fuse to enable the start & charging circuits. Get a new tinned lug for the main battery cable from a marine store and solder them back on.

Tinned cable lug. Gott it. thanks for the responce. I have a feeling that the lug at the Marine store is going to be 8times more expensive then at the auto parts place. Is it any different just because its at the Marine store??

No if you use a plain copper lug it will be very vunerable to corrosion as opposed to the pre tinned lug. Get it where it is the cheapest.

I prefer soldering because the solder will wick into the conductor of the cable and seal the transition to the plastic sheath. This will tin the exposed copper and keep corrosion from destroying the cable. You could crimp and solder to make a stronger mechanical connection along with the good electrical connection and other benefits of solder. It just depends on how long you want it to last. I like to fix it and forget it..
