Bad Landing = Broke Ski

:banghead: Landed mostly upside down and flat off a boat wake yesterday.:banghead:

Originally I thought I had just broken a couple of motor mounts. Turns out three were sheared clean and the fourth is broken as well, but not sheared completely off. Bilge pumps are history, couplers are damaged, dampner shredded, and midshaft appears to have gotten jammed back towards the pump.

Time to order some Kenny Keepers.

Unfortunately, kenny keepers do squat for landing upside down. Hard, nose first landings/bottom smackings are the only think KK's are going to help.

I must say, I know your pain, I did the same thing a couple months back. Only I did mine from about 12ft up. I was ok with all 4 motor mounts letting go...I would have been angry if it happened on a boat wake.

Ya' know, Jerry---I didn't even think of that. :dunno:

I'll still get some keepers, though, as I have been known to hit bottom on nose stabs, etc. Perhaps my mounts were already giving away after my ski was pancaked at Lanier.

I was pretty pissed as I hadn't ridden in two weeks and this happened within fifteen minutes out. :banghead:

At least you didn't smash the electrical box cover in the process and then sink the boat soon after. That's about the ONLY way it gets much worse. :).

KK's are definitely a worthwhile investment though.

That sucks bro. on the 4th of July we had 6 footers... great day... last trick of the day I hit a huge nose stab... hit bottom. busted the nose up pretty good, shattered the battery tray all to hell, but my motor stayed put... thanks to my kenny keepers :hail: :hail: :hail:

slight threadjack here but...

I repaired the nose pretty damn good, but I have a slight vibration just off throttle until I plane out... coupler is prefect, motor mounts are perfect... pump, pump shoe, seal, impeller all look great. Pulled the head, cylinders and pistons look mint... with head off I can rotate the coupler/crank and everything seams to be ok. I'm at a loss... Any thoughs of what else might be causing this issue? Could I have damaged something internal on the motor.

:dunno:

If you are running stock single FA's, they may be hitting your hood at the just off-idle vibration. Mine did for a while. I think the motor was slightly off to that side.

I'll have to check... I am running the OEM 38mm's with stock air box. I know my FPP (wet pipe) knocked a little on the side before... maybe I need to just make a little adjustment. Of course, it might of been the loose battery... it made the vibration while I was getting it back to shore. Have not had it back in the water yet as I am still awaiting a new SS battery tray. I'll have to water test it this weekend.

Thanks Matt...

I don't think the stock dual 38 FA's can do that. The B-Pipe touches the hull all the time, so I don't think that's it, either.
I vote on your battery causing it.

That sucks Chic - I did the same thing on mine at the end of last year, except my mid shaft was fine. I just took it as a sign that I was supposed to rip everything out so that I could dump the Rules and install some Attwoods :)

Got her back up and running (finally) after some late Saturday night wrenching. I had a broken battery box as well.

Ran like crap on Sunday, but when I got home to flush, I noticed a fuel line that was cracked and spraying at the front carb inlet. Replaced the line and BRAAAAPPPPPPP!!!!!!!
