Eastbay, how did you mess your knee up? What trick were you trying to do, to where you jacked it up that bad.

Right now, I ride with no holds or straps. Ocasionally, when in the air during straight boat wake jumping, my feet become separated from the tray (aprox 1+ foot) when landing in the water, my feet and leg pile drive into the ski tray..., not fun and ouch. Never wrecked a knee or ankle, but the force is great and I really could.

My plan is adding footholds during the long winter months and not miss a day of riding during our valued, short Michigan summers. But for now I just order foot straps. Since my left foot (forward) is all over the place, my right foot seems to alway be generally fixed at the rear. Q: Would it make sence to have a strap at the rear right only (attached from the tray wall to the tray floor)? I would stay in the tray during high air and for 'left nose stabs', my right foot will be secure. Can't BR yet anyways. Guys, what's your thought?

he broke it doing a nose stab off a ski boat wake. his foot slipped off before the landing and his knee came down with all the force of the landing on it on that metal bow eye. it was a freak accident because hes used to jumping 6 foot tugboat rollers without a problem. his foot just slipped this one time. it was kinda crazy.

do footholds and straps. i have footholds and dont have a problem with them but on my next ski ill prob have a strap at the front and the footholds in the back.

Ride hard, put away wet!
I feel ya bro, I had sergery on my knee 2 years ago and i'm just happy to be riding. Had a torn meniscus (cartalage) and couldn't squat or extend it straight. While he was in there he found a torn ACL ligament, it's still torn but usable.

I healed 2 weeks into the physical therapy. He said one bad fall to the side and i'll be in serious trouble. I think about that every time i put my feet into the footholds.

Take care of it man.

whaz cracking everyone (hopefully no more knees!!)

felix,
i have the exact same problem, This fear has kind of kept me off my skis. but i recently got back on my blaster to enjoy the water. No wavejumping yet.

I swim at least 3 times a week and hit the weights a min of 4 days per week. I still cant run, the impact just hurts both of my knees. After my shattered heal in '05 and knee surgery shortly after....
Ive been concetrating on just getting as strong as possible, particulary the muscles around my knees. The doctor said this is the only thing that will help prevent further injury, (not even a knee brace).

I have found riding my Blaster to be excellent for strengthening my knees and legs. I think it is the sort of semi-squat position, and pushing against the cornering Gs that does the trick. Plus, it is relatively stable in comparison to my FX1, so I don't usually have any surprise "tweeks" that twist or wrench my knees on the Blaster. I agree with your Doc about essentially not relying on a brace to provide your stability. The expensive braces (DonJoy for example) are damn good, but are not a substitute for your knees own structures. I quit wearing my brace years ago and have never ridden with one, but of course if your Dr. recommends one, then you should cretainly use one.

Here's to all fellow gimps!!!!! :Banane35:

torn cartilage in mine! plus rubber band shoulder ligaments ( compliments of a 92 KX125 and a sand mound) what is the knee surgery like? mine cracks snapples and pops like a Kellogg's factory. I need a fix.. single leg squats and some pliometrics hopping on one leg help and well as squats on a half swiss ball.. its all about the core stability (which i know now) and the fact that you cant drink pizza and eat beer all winter then jump back on the ski and ride like you did at the end of the previous season.. for now i'll keep crunching

shoot, the doc never said anything about that!!!

popping was very prominent in my pre surgery knee. It used to lock when i would twist laterally sometimes and id have to literally kick my leg straight so it would pop back into position. Then it would be sore for a day, but somewhat bearable..

then one day it locked and swelled up and i found myself back on my favorite pair of crutches....

my advice... if you have insurance get the arthroscopic done friday and youwill be back work on monday.
