Bad killswitch

I just bought a 90 SJ and it runs awesome, but the killswitch doesn't work, so I traced the wires and I don't know what previously happened to it but the wires are spliced and hooked up with a 4 flat tralier wire harness. I'll post pics shortly, any ideas?

Someone was ingenious there... JSS could sort that out for you. It is nice to be able to kill the engine, right?

Yeaaa I didn't even notice it when I bought the thing, dude just told me the killswitch didn't work and I figured it was a bad ground or something. Anyone know where to start?

I had to diagnose a kill switch the other day. One question, Do those wires still run to the killswitch at the handlebars? Kill/start/stop switch only needs 4 wires.

I haven't opened up an SJ ebox yet so I can't tell you where they go. I did however, test all four wires with a logic probe. If I remember correctly, two of the wires (black and white) are just (+) and (-) and the other two (brown and tan) are signal wires for start and stop. I could have them reversed? If need be I can probe them again and tell you exactly what wire goes where, and what polarity it carries for a given input.

Got any more pics?

I recommend that you start from scratch so you know exactly what's goin on in there. I've stumbled upon so many rat's nests before that I've come to the conclusion that 9 of 10 people dont know chit about wiring. As far as the trailer rig, that's a new one. Do a search on "wiring diagrams" Good luck!

I have a service manual in the mail but thanks a bunch this is a great start. The thing I don't understand is on the kill switch side of the trailer harness, the wires are spliced. Then on the ebox side of the harness it is also spliced... So why the hell didn't they just connect the wires? I don't understand where this trailer harness came in.

As for pictures, thats all there is to it really. The switch housing all looks good but I was thinking of replacing it anyway. I just don't think that is my problem if those wires are all rigged in there like that.
