It could have been a hydrolock that stretched the cylinder, but not to the point of cracking it.

On my original 701 cylinder, I hydrolocked it (from a failed hood liner during a sub), the cylinder cracked and the head was about 2-3mm above the sleeve though the crack was not even 1mm, so the rest was from stretching the water jacket.

That is not from the sleeve dropping, that is a bad casting.........If it was just the sleeve, the sholder that the sleeve presses into would be higher up, in this case, all of it is low.

you could get it decked to correct this

Check the squish before you deck it. I had to deck my cylinder just to get the proper squish on my ada head. Strange I had to take off .025 to get a squish of.050

actually i dont think it was a bad casting because they would have to take a run over it after they put the sleeves in so i am thinking that it may have dropped when my barrel was bored apparently they do that occasionally but i am getting it decked to fif it i am looking on the bright side more comp. no it has never run good since i put it back together the plug was not wet but i was getting a little salt on the electrode and could not work out where it was coming from it was showing up fine on the comp guage. Matt e thanks for the thread on porting hopefully now i can see how good it works

Like Big K said the sleeve couldn,t have dropped because the entire surface is low

This IS a very common problem with the 701/760 cylinders! Just getting them hot will do that. I machine the deck on just about every motor that goes through my shop... I also made special tools to clamp sleeves in when installing new big bore liners. I learned a long time ago with that CRAP!:banghead:
