B1 Click Click

So, I press the start button on my daughter's B1. Sometimes I get nothing, sometimes it starts, most of the time I just get click click. I have searched the site for answers and suggestions. What I need to know is if I jump the brown and red wires, and it starts without the click, does this mean my start/stop switch has croaked. I am aslo gonna check for a bad ground wire. Just trying the easiest stuff first. Oh, and have tried multiple known good batteries.

Well I bypassed the start switch all together and just jumped the red and brown. I also ran a negative cable from my neg battery post to a good ground. Same deal:try it..click, try it...click, try it..click. About every 7th or 8th time it'll start like brand new. WTF???? :shooter3:

So the cable itself may be suspect. The ground connection at my battery always has problems and does the click thing. I have to clean the connection with a wire brush or just wiggle it back a forth a few times with it semi-tight. Check both those connections and look for bumps along the ground wire. You could also test that circuit for voltage drop with a multi-meter.

Sounds like the relay is bad. To test you must remove the relay, set on bench and hook up an OHM meter (on R x 1) and connect to the main battery cable posts, and then power up solenoid with a couple of small jumper leads from a 12v battery and connect to the black to negative (-) and brown (+) from the relay to the positive on the battery from the solenoid momentarily while reading the OHM meter, your looking to read '0' ohms every time you power up the brown lead. If the ohm meter skips or doesn't read '0' ohms every time, replace it.
P.S. Just a cheap sweep meter from radio shack ($10) will work perfect for this test.

Thanks. I'll crack open the ebox today. When I opened the fuse access cover some water dripped out. This could get ugly.

If the main ground to the case is good and the positive wire to the starter is good then you can try jumping the large lugs on the relay with a big srew driver blade or something and the starter should spin. If it does not then the starter brushes or armature might be broken / worn and you need a new starter.

If I jump the large lugs on the relay it starts every time. Does this indicate bad relay, or could it be something else as well?

Thanks

Great to hear this - I have exactly the same problem :). I heard racers use seadoo XP relays - tougher, and properly sealed - that is their opinion - but it does not fit the oem ebox...
