B-Pipes ~ Precious aside ~ Which is best?

I've got a: SJ mod chamber, SJ Ltd chamber, and a blaster mod chamber (the kidney one that fits in a SJ) and I'm curious if anyone has done back to back tests with these three?

I'm running dual 44s, cut and filled T cases, low-end-ported 82mm 61x cylinders with sleeves raised .5 inches on the intake side, the b-pipe is hogged out to 46mm (or something like that), matched cylinder-to-exhaust manifold, top screw 1/4 turn out - all others closed, flow control valve on stinger, b-mod pipe, MSD ignition, ADA 180 lbs compression, pump gas, and 3mm static advance.

It runs great, but can I get more bottom end out of the other pipes?

Yes,The limited chamber set up with mods works the best. Pat 'BOGIE' Bogart (X-Metal Works) and I mod them as well...

from my own exp. not saying this is true in all cases though. I ran a SJ mod chamber with the mods Chuckie and Pat do back to back with a Blaster mod chamber and i saw a little more with the blaster setup. I was having other boat issues though so it might not be a 100% legit back to back comparison. if there is enough interest i could probably do another back to back now that my ski is running right again.

i love my setup for the budget beater that it is. i've got a limited on it. but i havent done the back to back comparison. they way you tune your screws is gonna be a big impact.

What kind of mods are you talking about?

And your saying you make mods to a limited chamber......

I think you're never going to get multiple people concluding on a common answer. As romack points out, the screws can make a difference. Likewise, how you route your water and whether you run restrictors/flow control valves can make a big difference as to why one person might swear by a Mod and the other by a Limited. In fact getting those things properly set up those things probably make a bigger impact than the 1.5" difference between a Limited and Mod pipe.

Actually the Blaster vs the SJ chamber is a more then a size difference they are shaped difference too. From the little I know about chamber dynamics the size and shape will alter the exhaust wave timing a lot more then just the changes in length alone like in the SJ limited vs mod. Yes tuning will make a difference but compare the same routing between different setups with screw adjustments to their best setting will tell you what chamber makes better power delivery and where. The key is one variable and the rest constant. This would be a more accurate test then throw stuff out there and see what happens. Weather permitting I might do this before the cold hits this year, if not I will in the spring...now I want to know.

Don't forget, there is also a kawasaki 750 chamber that is shaped similar to the curved blaster chamber. Think it may be a little smaller in diameter though.

Sure, there are some significant size differences between the limited/mod and Blaster mod and also the straight-through design versus center-bleed. I was merely pointing out that if you do the testing with your water routing and screw settings, you may reach a different conclusion as to which pipe performs best than someone else who has significantly different water routing/screw settings.

Hey Powder-
I think I know someone who let you borrow a kawi limited chamber:sneaky:

HMM i smell a project coming on.

I hear ya, that's how i took it too. This has me thinking about some projects though. I want to do a full all out testing of the FPP stock B-chambers then the ones that people have moded like Team Scream/X-metal, TNT and various other Blaster chambers that were recut. I think i can score some dyno time over the winter from a source i have. It would be a great resource if nothing else so i can learn more about 2 stroke pipes. Being the dry pipe person I am I would probably do as many of those I could get together too. Oh man why did i even read this thread.

Well if your going to dyno all the pipes that you can come up with I would donate my speedwerx freestyle pipe for the dyno time to see it on top of the list... LOL (If I still have a ski at that time)

I have tried both the SJ mod and the Blaster mod chamber on my sons boat.
His boat 62T 81mm ported 61x cyl. twin 44 carbs
More off bottom w/ Blaster chamber, but less in mid to top.
There Is not a huge difference but noticable. I am still running the Blaster mod chamber on it.
KEEFER has also done this comparison and so has RMBCRACING and found I believe the same results. Not sure about the Limmitted chamber as we cut all those down back in the day and at the time I noticed no change from cut down to stock lmtd length.
