Attwood Tsunami Bilge Pump

Anyone try this attwood bilge pump...

thinking of picking up a couple of the 500gph units, was wondering if anyone has any feedback on these.n Good, Bad??

i use dual west marine 550's with no scupper, they clear out the hull in under a minute

I can't find any info on those pumps on attwoodmarine.com and I've never heard of them before either. So, I couldn't give a reason to try them. The normal Attwood pumps are excellent.

attwood sucks! i have never had good luck with them. they burn out prematurely. i use rule 500 gph's. i was thinking of getting rule 800's. they draw twice the amperage (5 amps vs 2.5 according to the package) but they only had one in stock. they use the 3/4" bilgeflex just like the 500's.

That thing looks like a blender,:buttkick: there are some smaller pumps out there that flow 500GPH.

The Rule 500 is a good pump with a flat bottom, so you can 3M 5200 it to the hull. :headbang:

Rule 500 pulls 1.9 amps compared to Attwood 500 at 1.4, and in my experience (and a lot of others') they don't airbind like Rules tend to do, plus you can pick them up at Wally World.

i never had a rule seize from no water but i have heard of attwoods catching fire.

those are some pretty good prices tho, my single 350 Rule cost me 35 bucks i think... working at a boatyard/marine hardware store i have to say that the market is owned by Rule when it comes to commercial fisherman here in Maine, and in my opinion, these are the guys who run them day in and day out 365, so i run what they run. we also sell attwood and i havnt heard a thing bad about them from a customer, but i do know that seamen here use Rule, as does the USCG

i work at bass pro. i have never had one of those, but they have been selling them for over a year.

I use a single Rule 1100. It's the same shape as and only a bit taller than the 500 and 800 rules. Didn't have any trouble making it fit next to the shaft in my RN. Had to trim a very small bit on the coupler cover. Jetworks has 1 1/8" billet outlets and it clears the hull FAST!

rules would be fine if they did not go airbound when the hull dries out... I don't know how many times I would have to flip the rule off and back on while trying to ride just so it would regain suction again... I have never had to re-prime a attwood pump while riding, they always pump and for some reason never go airbound... This is a huge thing if you ride in the surf...

I have owned both and there is no comparison between the two...
fyi - attwoods are a little wider, that may be the reason for the better hookup...

a similar comparison would be:
Attwood = 12 vien Magnum Pump
Rule = 120mm FX-1 pump

The 350 RULES don't seem to go airbound like the 500's are known for doing.
I ended up with one 350 RULE and one 500 RULE (only because the bases where already epoxied in) in my Roundnose. The 350 is always pumping when I get water in, I don't see the 500 pump much water unless there is alot in there. The 350 will also pump water down to a lower level than the 500.

Only reason any pump would catch fire is if there was no inline fuse to blow.... I learned the hard way. :theyareontome:

Agreed on the Attwoods: I dumped two perfectly good Rule 800's this winter in favor of Attwood 500's - I just got sick of the Rules air-binding. The Attwoods don't pump it out anything like as fast, but they pump all the time, so overall they're better. I have a one way anyway, so the pumps are secodary.
