ATAC POWERVlV Honda CRF 125 1984 HELP

Need someone who really knows this stuff

I am attempting to re assemble the ATAC powervalve for above mentioned motorcycle and all information I receive is different/confusing.

I need to know

A) Does it have to be assembled ( right case closed ) with the valve in open position ? or closed position ?
B) does the LOW RPM increase with the Powervalve open or closed ?
It appears clymers manual and other information i receive does not say the same.

ATAC ATAC System: The Honda Automatic Torque Amplification Chamber system works by effectively increasing or decreasing the volume of the exhaust system with a small butterfly valve located just before the exhaust connection. At low RPM a centrifugal crankshaft driven gear opens the valve into a small chamber and increases the volume of the exhaust by allowing the exhaust gases to flow through the chamber. At high RPM the ATAC valve is closed and the exhaust simply exits into the expansion chamber. A larger expansion chamber allows for more power at lower RPM's because of the extra time needed for the impulse to "bounce" back for the supercharger effect. It was used on their CR motocrossers, GP bikes and MVX, NS and NSR road bikes.

On most 2 strokes i've seen the power valve opens at higher rpms. The valves closed at low rpms for more bottom end torque and it keeps the gases inside the cylinder longer. Then as the rpm's get over a certain point a rod opens the powervalves. Your best bet would be go to thumpertalk . com. There's a Honda 2 stroke dirt bike section. They should definitely help you out over there on timing the PV'S. If you try doing it yourself make sure in no position can the PV'S contact the piston. On some models this can happen when installed incorrectly.

BTW I'm assuming its a 1984 CR125?
