Two teenagers decided to go for a swim in the waves today with jeans on. apparantly the rip tide pulled them out. They were probably not good enough swimmers to be out there, especially with jeans on. I will definately have a lesson in my math class about swimming in lake Erie during the wave days. Too many kids have drown in the last couple years and the kids I teach live close to the beach. Does this happen in the ocean alot around the beach communities?? Waves were probably 5-7 feet...The coast guard was having a hell of a time with their boat trying to find them and there were life chains of people looking for them. One might have survived.

Not what we needed today....

One of our favorite riding areas named "The Rockaway Beach" has been holding the "deadliest beach" title in NY state and is in the top three nationwide for the last ten years.
My opinion, sometimes it's a handful. I still remember being smashed by a wave in the sand (lucky me) under a GSXL between rocks a few years ago, bad wipeout on a Honda R-12X last year (had to take it easy for the rest of the day and could not walk for the rest of the week, had a knee surgery in 2004, was still recovering, and still haven't fully recovered), towing dead couches back to the marina at 5mph while being pounded by 6-12' cross chop caused by three major currents meeting at the Rockaway Point.
We are so used to the bad news here, and it's never funny.
