Are you outside your comfort zone?

I rode the river today in really fun/rough conditions for the first time with my new Magoo 760. The 20mph winds were coming straight upriver, so some waves were 2-3, and with the extra power I had a few 'issues', one of which ended up being a throwaway because I just wasn't in position for the power hit.

This is actually a good thing to me, I'd rather be slightly outside my comfort zone with the power than completely inside it or way outside it.

I can relate, but a stock ski is probably too much for me  I figure by starting on the ski I've built (pretty snappy if ya ask me) It will only force me to ride better- at least thats what I tell myself.

It's nice to have that feeling. Just when you think you have it all sussed out, you get a reminder that your machine is somtimes in control.

I have had similar experiences with the race boat I have been building. I think I have the power band under control until the other day, I was performing a wide, fast sweeping turn. The pump unhooked a little causing the ski to rev hard, and when the pump loaded up a bit, it nearly ripped my arms off!

yeah my magoos freestyle ported 760 is too much machine for me im sure. I'm still not used to the hit that it has. Even a little scary sometimes when I hit a wake or wave just right.

I don't have a Magoo ported 760 but my 760 SJ has a pretty good hit and it can surprise me sometimes. I have ridden a few of Magoos builds and they hit like a mule. Maybe oneday I can save enough pennies to get one. Congrats on the extra braap factor.:Banane01:

yeah... it took me a bit to get use to my Magoo ported 760cc.. When I first rode it, I really had a rough time doing any surf moves, cause it was so jerky... I have finally caught up w/ it now and can use the power more effectively. Now doing any trick is so much easier... pretty cool how that works...

After reading this... looks like I am going the Magoo ported 760 route over the winter.

I'm currently running a Magoo ported 701 with 38mm carbs and 35cc ADA domes, and I would still like a little more. Although, at first it was a huge increase over my unported 701.

Kinda nice adding more power a little at a time and getting used to it. Rather than adding a ton of power at once and trying to catch your skillz up to it.

Plus, my ported 701 will go to a younger rider next year who, by then, will be ready for it.

Damn.....I am glad to hear all this guys. Sounds like my motor is gona rip!!!! Flat water backy on a blaster? lol j/k........I do hope to be pulling some big stabs, with the added power i am hoping the boat gets out of the water alot easier. I am putting the motor in a SJ this winter fo sho!

So maybe a Magoo Ported 760 is the secret here?
I have a Magoo Ported 772 Lamey, and I am WELL within my comfort zone.:dunno: :dunno: :dunno: :dunno: :dunno:

What are you implying there Geek? Have you just gotten used to the power of your Lamey or are you saying that a 61x 760 might be more powerful(doubtful)? Or is your Magoo Lamey 772 running poorly?... just curious

My magoo ported 701 with Riva 48's hits very nice. I am comfortable with the predictable power as of now but will definatly want more hp in the future. I like how clean the power comes on; easy ski to ride, powerful and feels pretty light as well. Darin if you think you ski is scary now wait until you refoam that thing

I need to ride one of these magoo 760's in order to properly answer that question. I think my ski is running great! It's very smooth with predictible power, and I don't feel like it's too much by any means. I think these fellas are saying there magoo 760's get a little uncontrolable at times. I HOPE my motor isn't any less powerful than one of those! Maybe I'm just not pushing myself enough to feel out of my comfort zone?

Then again, I've ridden smitty's 5mm Lamey stroker w/ total loss and full spectrums, and don't feel out of my comfort zone on that either...
I think I'm just a killjoy. :lightning:

Try a ported 66e in a REV hull  That sounds pretty cool. What does your hull weigh geek?

I may put that Lamey PV in my squarenose soon. Maybe we can do a comparison. The ski should be similar except for the PV and Riva 48's. I am going to try and make FSF in late September.
