SX/SXi/SXi Pro Anyone know what this part is.... (pic attached)

so i went for a ride today... did do anything crazy just the everyday jumps and stuff but when i took my hood off to check my gas i found this rubber thing laying right under the latch sitting by the hood seal of my 99 sxi pro.. so i took a look and i noticed that the aftermarket spring that is in there doesnt have anything protecting the poie from the metal of the spring and the bottom one has a rubber thing on it?? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks guys

i don't know if kawi's have this but it might be the rubber nudule that the coupling cover mounts to...

it go es on the spring that holds the handle pole at the top of the spring

thats what me and the guy i was riding with thought because i figured kawi wouldnt leave metal agains the pole to rub on it.... thanks guys
