"Back in the day"......the ESPN announcers would come up with these names while commentating a race. I think at some point racers came up with their own so they wouldn't get stuck with whatever some announcer weenie came up with???

Coming up with your own "cool" name was probably self-defense at some point! It was pretty cool flipping on ESPN and seeing these guys rippin' up a closed course or pulling off well orchestrated freestyle routines....at least it sure beat flipping on ESPN and seeing GOLF!!:shrug:
